“I had been looking for an appointment for a while to get the vaccine. I was successful on the internet on Friday, and so did my sister. In Douarnenez, there was no possibility, ”smiles Josiane, who came from Audierne to receive her first injection of the Pfizer vaccine. Sitting in one of the many open rooms, she waits the prescribed 15 minutes to make sure she doesn’t have an allergic reaction before getting back on the road. She will return on May 4 for the second injection.
Moving at the end of April to a gymnasium
Posted on Doctolib on Thursday, April 3, all vaccination slots are taken for the next three weeks at the Clermont-Tonnerre military instruction hospital (HIA) in Brest. “New slots will be opened according to the allocations granted to us by the Brest Regional Health Agency”, underlines the deputy chief doctor Barbara, deputy director of the hospital, who announces that by the end of April, the vaccination center will be set up in a French Navy gymnasium in the city center, rue Mostaganem, on the Keroriou plateau, behind the Foyer du marin.
“This Tuesday, we will do 198 vaccinations and, as of tomorrow, we will reach 216 injections per day. We will ramp up to reach 1,000 injections per day in the long term. We will set up a shuttle if people take the wrong site when Keroriou is open, ”assures the deputy chief medical officer.
HIA personnel and reservists
For this start of the vaccination campaign, 50 personnel are mobilized, from the HIA, but also reservists, such as Thierry, nurse, former active soldier, who came to lend a hand. “I agreed to come and vaccinate, to relieve my colleagues from the HIA who are very busy with the pandemic, especially in intensive care. People are delighted that they were able to be vaccinated. But, for the elderly population, it is a concern to register on the Internet, ”remarks Thierry.
The vaccination center is signposted as soon as you enter the HIA, and reception is on the ground floor, in a former surgical department which was easily released.
Three vaccination lines
Three vaccination lines are organized, which made it possible on this first day to get ahead of the program. For the moment, vaccination only concerns those over 70, people at high risk of severe form of covid-19 or those 50 to 69 years of age with comorbidity, as well as health workers. “We only get the Pfizer vaccine. We will then adapt to the vaccine that will be allocated to us. If we have extra doses at the end of the day, we will use them to vaccinate our staff who have not yet been vaccinated or some of our fragile patients, ”says the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
