A teenager charged with carjacking and assault on a 71-year-old man on the South Shore

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 15-year-old boy is charged with assaulting and hijacking an elderly man in South Shore on Friday.

The teenager is charged with one count of aggravated hijacking with a weapon, one count of aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police say he was arrested in the 6900 block of South East End Avenue moments after beating a 71-year-old man – causing serious injuries by forcibly taking the victim’s vehicle, in the 6700 block of South Jeffery Ave.

The suspect was also seen in a vehicle stolen from a 70-year-old woman in the 6700 block of S. Crandon Avenue on Tuesday.

The teenager was taken into custody and charged accordingly.
