A smiling Ian Rush suggests this is good news for Liverpool fans as he gives a thumbs-up on a night out with Mohamed Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas as the contract issue rumbles.

Liverpool legend Ian Rush spent an evening with Mohamed Salah’s agent on the eve of the Reds’ Champions League quarter-final at Benfica.

Abbas shared the footage on Instagram on Monday evening showing him with Liverpool’s all-time leading goalscorer smiling and giving a thumbs-up.

The Colombian agent has become a figurehead among Reds fans, who will be involved in negotiations if Salah agrees to new terms at Anfield.

Fans know their hopes aren’t raised by a social media post, but things seem to be looking up when it comes to their star player signing a new contract.

Salah’s contract is due to expire in 2023 but he could put pen to paper on a four-year extension with Liverpool, ending months of speculation over his future.

Jurgen Klopp made it clear in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Benfica clash that ‘there is nothing to worry about’ regarding Salah’s contract.

The Premier League goalscoring machine has already made it clear he wants to stay on Merseyside for the rest of his career.

Liverpool beat Manchester United 5-0 in October and after the game Salah insisted he saw his long-term future at Anfield.

“If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that – it’s out of my hands,” he said .

“It depends on what the club wants, not on me.

“At the moment I can’t see myself playing against Liverpool. It would make me sad. It’s hard, I don’t want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad.

“At the moment I can’t see myself playing against Liverpool, but let’s see what happens in the future.”

Salah currently tops the scoring charts with 20 goals this league campaign, six ahead of second-placed teammate Diogo Jota.

He also scored a number of jaw-dropping goals, including back-to-back stunners against Manchester City and Watford in October, leading to calls that he is currently the best player in the world.

After the emphatic victory at Old Trafford last year, Rush revealed he spoke to Salah about his future.

“At the end of the day, every club in the world would want Mo Salah,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I know he would like to stay at Liverpool. There are no supporters who will love Mo Salah more than Liverpool supporters, there is no doubt about that.

“It’s a difficult situation. I know Jurgen Klopp loves him and all that, so you just have to wait and see. But if you are Mo Salah, you keep scoring goals. I know how the structure works with Liverpool, so I hope everything is fine and both sides are happy.
