‘A shame for the Champions League’ – Liverpool’s easy win over Villarreal over Tyson Fury over Dillian Whyte as Jason Cundy says FAN could have played alongside Virgil van Dijk

talkSPORT host Jason Cundy launched a scathing rant on Villarreal’s performance in their 2-0 loss at Liverpool, calling it a ‘Champions League disgrace’.

The Reds took a two-goal advantage in the first leg of their semi-final at Anfield thanks to an own goal from Pervis Estupinan and a strike from Sadio Mane two minutes later.

Although he held on for 53 minutes, the scoreline flattered the LaLiga side, who only had one shot and couldn’t force a save from Reds goalkeeper Alisson.

The encounter is far from over ahead of the second leg at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Tuesday – but few would give the Spanish club a chance after witnessing the Premier League side dominating on Wednesday night.

As the Champions League semi-finals progressed, it’s hard to think of an easier win, and former Chelsea player Cundy wasn’t impressed at all.

According to him, Liverpool’s win looked like Tyson Fury’s knockout win over Dillian Whyte on Saturday, while the pundit also suggested a Reds fan could have linked up with Virgil van Dijk at the back.

“First of all, congratulations to Liverpool,” he began. “Cruise control. There isn’t a world that exists right now where Villarreal can trouble Liverpool at any cost.

“Liverpool were totally dominant. In some ways it was too easy for them. I don’t know what I just watched – but Villarreal is a disgrace.

” It’s a shame. UEFA must watch this and think: “We have big problems”.

“If that’s what it’s like to get to the semi-finals and face English teams… Liverpool haven’t gotten out of second gear. This Villarreal side was like playing the last group game against a team that isn’t even good enough to qualify for the Europa League.

“It was shocking. Liverpool are brilliant – but it was a disgrace to the Champions League. There are players who didn’t even sweat in the Champions League semi-finals.

“There’s only one team that can do anything in Liverpool right now and that’s Man City, maybe Chelsea all at once. They’re streets ahead. Villarreal have been beaten before the first whistle.

“West Ham would give them a better game. Everton gave them a better game. I have no idea how Villarreal got this far.

“I can’t believe what I witnessed. I think you could have had a fan alongside Van Dijk tonight.

“You could have taken a fan out of the stadium and said, ‘Look, it’s your lucky day, you’re going to play for Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League, put on your kit’.

“That’s how bad Villarreal were.”

When asked to defend his point by a Liverpool fan, who pointed to Villarreal’s resilience for much of the first hour, Cundy added: “The only shock is that it’s only 2 -0.

“It was like watching Tyson Fury versus Dillian Whyte over the weekend.

“Liverpool were just hitting them with little punches and eventually they were going to get their knockout.”
