A pregnant woman identified her boyfriend as the shooter before his death in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – A recently released court document has revealed that a pregnant 24-year-old woman who was fatally shot in a Birmingham flat on the last day of January identified the man responsible for the shooting before he died. .

In a court document filed in an unrelated case in 2017, Lane K. Tolbert, assistant district attorney for the Bessemer Division of Jefferson County, told the court about the “declaration of death” of Shantrice Hines, who she said had identified her boyfriend, Andrew Goldsmith IV, as the man who shot.

“On January 31, 2023, Goldsmith was identified via death notice as the shooter of his pregnant girlfriend and baby, both deceased, as well as the shooting of two children aged seven and 13,” said writes Tolbert in a filing for the revocation of Goldsmith’s probation in a 2017 case.

Tolbert wrote that “warrants are being obtained” in connection with Hines’ death. Two young girls were also injured in the same shooting, Birmingham police said, and were taken to a local hospital with what authorities said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Goldsmith pleaded guilty in 2021 to an attempted murder charge. In that case, Goldsmith was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but 17 years of that sentence was suspended. He was on probation at the time of Hines’ shooting death, according to court documents.
