A passenger jumps from the Carnival cruise ship bound for Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man jumped from a Carnival cruise ship heading to Port Canaveral on Saturday, according to the cruise line.

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the incident to 8 On Your Side through a statement, saying an adult male guest jumped from Carnival Mardi Gras early Saturday morning.

The vessel was returning to Port Canaveral at the time of the incident.

Carnival said the US Coast Guard has been notified and is looking for the man. The crew assisted the Coast Guard search until the ship was freed.

“The Carnival Care team is supporting the guest’s family,” the cruise line said. “Mardi Gras has arrived in Port Canaveral and will follow its next route.”

According to a report by TMZ, another passenger learned of the incident after two teenagers shouted that someone had jumped overboard.
