A mysterious moving spiral appears among the stars above Hawaii

A mysterious spiral formation was spotted in the night sky over Hawaii earlier this month, sparking curiosity among observers.

The sight, initially spotted by a Mauna Kea observatory on Jan. 18, first looked like a bright, traveling star before transforming.

It grew into a larger blob before turning into a dot surrounded by a spinning spiral, as seen in footage from the Subaru-Asahi STAR camera.

The swirling night sky, however, is not a UFO or a spacecraft – but is thought to be the work of billionaire Elon Musk.

The rare sighting is believed to be linked to Musk’s Space X satellite launch.

Subaru Telescope, one of the camera operators, said he believed the dazzling phenomenon was related to the satellite’s orbital deployment operation.
