NEW YORK CITY – A busload of mostly single adult male migrants arrived at Port Authority in New York from Texas on Friday morning – where they were greeted by volunteers handing out burritos – as Governor Greg Abbott (R ) continues to disperse record numbers of cross-border commuters and illegal aliens arriving in his state to Democratic-run “sanctuary cities.”
New York City officials appeared to be unprepared for the arrival of the migrants, or at least lacked the communication and coordination to receive them, as the Port Authority initially did not have a gate for the bus to pass through. station, and Port Authority employees were unaware of the plan. for arrival. The bus circled between 8th and 9th Avenues Friday morning until it was finally able to park at Gate 14 around 7:30 a.m.
“Due to President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policy, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” Governor Abbott said in a statement. a statement.
“In addition to Washington, DC, New York is the perfect destination for these migrants, who can benefit from the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about in the sanctuary city,” Abbott said. “I hope he keeps his promise to welcome all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”
When the bus arrived, Breitbart News saw passengers disembark after a 3-day trip from Texas, greeted by a handful of volunteers. One volunteer wore a “NYC immigration services” t-shirt, but there appeared to be no city employees present.
The greeters handed the migrants a bag bearing the logo of the humanitarian aid organization ‘Save the Children’; however, there appeared to be less than 10 children in the group and no more than 5 women. The rest of the sixty or so passengers on the bus were single men between the ages of 20 and 40.
Volunteers drove the group through Port Authority, gathered them at the entrance to the bus station, and handed out burritos. Some migrants were transported to other places, but it is not known where.
A migrant, a man who said his name was Alfonzo and who arrived alone, told Breitbart News he traveled from Venezuela to Mexico via Texas, where he was put directly on the bus for New York.
He left his wife and children in Chile and explained that he first came to America alone and planned to bring them later. He has no family or connections in the United States and does not speak English. He came with a bag containing toiletries and a pillow, and had 130 US dollars.
Alfonzo told Breitbart News that now was a good “opportunity” to come to the United States, explaining that he did not believe he would be admitted under former President Trump’s administration, specifically mentioning that the wall along the southern border was an obstacle to entry. He said people in Mexico had accepted money to direct him to the border.
Alfonzo said he was looking for work, but had never been to New York or the United States. He had no accommodation and was not aware of any accommodation services or resources.
Despite Democratic officials’ support for illegal immigration through their sweeping sanctuary city policies, which protect illegal aliens from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest and deportation, a a handful warned that migrant buses from Texas would overwhelm their city’s public resources.
New York Mayor Eric Adams (D), for example, pleaded with Biden for “additional federal resources immediately” to deal with the wave of illegal immigration. In a separate statement, Adams told New Yorkers to “get on board” for their city to be overrun by cross-border commuters and illegal aliens arriving and straining infrastructure, hospitals, schools and neighborhoods.Officer of the Mayor of New York / YouTube
“Everyone’s block is going to be impacted by this,” Adams said. “And so we need to add our advocacy to our ability to help our neighbours. We need everyone on board with this.
“…our schools are going to be impacted, our healthcare system is going to be impacted, our infrastructure is going to be impacted,” he continued.
Adams’ office says sending migrant buses to New York is tantamount to using cross-border commuters and illegal aliens “as political pawns.” call politics “repugnant.”
Governor Abbott issued a public invitation for Mayor Adams to visit the southern border, insisting the ‘sanctuary city’ mayor is witnessing ‘the extent of the chaos created by the policies of opening of Biden’s borders”.
“I really wish they would. [visit] because officials across the country, they need to realize the extent of the chaos created by Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott said Thursday on Fox News.
“They stood up against a few thousand people who came to their communities over the past few months? Look, in any area of the state of Texas, we have over 5,000 people crossing that area every day,” Abbott continued.
Similarly, in Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser last month called on National Guard troops to deal with what she called a “humanitarian crisis” of just over 6,000 migrants being transported by bus. to the capital from Texas since April.
Bowser, a staunch supporter of the region’s sanctuary city policy, said migrant buses are a “tipping point” for Washington, D.C., even if they pale in comparison to the level of illegal immigration at which American border towns are forced to cope under the Biden Administration.
In Texas border towns alone, nearly 130,000 commuters and illegal aliens were caught crossing the border in June. More recently, in the small town of Normandy, Texas – with a population of just 29 – about 400 cross-border commuters and illegal aliens entered the area this month.
