A man crashed into his house and chased people with a pickaxe, police say

A man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly crashing his car into a Lake Forest home, then threatening his roommate and chasing neighbors with a pickaxe, according to Orange County sheriff’s deputies.
The suspect was injured in the crash, but no one else was injured in the incidents, authorities said. Calls about an accident in the 22000 block of Robin Street came in around noon, officials said.
After the accident, the driver, who authorities said was a temporary resident of the neighborhood, left the car and ran to a nearby house, where he retrieved a pickaxe, Deputy Mike Woodroof said.
Woodroof said the man tried to assault his roommate and a gardener outside the house with the pickaxe.
CCTV footage obtained by ABC7 shows a man – apparently bloodied from the accident – forcing his way into a house through the front door. Inside, the man is shown hacking into a roommate’s door with the pickaxe.
Deputies arrived and confronted the man inside the house. When he refused to drop the pickaxe, deputies used less than lethal force to subdue him, Woodroof said.
He was arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment for a possible head injury from the car crash, Woodroof said. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities did not say whether it was drugs or alcohol. They said more information would be available once the suspect was released from hospital.
