A crackdown on child marriage in Owaisi On Assam

More than 2,250 people have been arrested in the state.
Hyderabad:
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly criticized the government of Assam demanding to know who will look after the girls left behind after the state government’s crackdown on child marriages.
Speaking to reporters, he said it was the failure of the state government which had been silent for six years.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday that the campaign against child marriage, launched by the state police since the day before, will continue until the next assembly elections in 2026.
“For six years there has been a BJP government in Assam. What have you done for the last six years? It’s been your failure for six years. You are sending them to jail. Now who is going to deal with these daughters? CM (Himanta Biswa Sarma) will do it? It’s a failure of the state and on top of that you are pushing them into misery,” he said at a press conference.
More than 2,250 people have been arrested in the state till Saturday in connection with the crackdown on child marriage, according to an official statement from the government of Assam.
A total of 2,258 people have been arrested so far based on 4,074 registered FIRs against child marriage across the state, he said.
According to the state government, those who have married girls under the age of 14 will be incarcerated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO), and cases under the Sexual Offenses Act 2006. the prohibition of child marriage will be registered against those who married girls of the age group 14-18 years.
“You (the Assam government) have already booked 4,000 cases and are in the process of booking another 4,000. Why don’t you open new schools? Open new schools. The BJP government in Assam is a government biased against Muslims,” ββhe continued.
He asked why the state government did not give land to the landless in lower Assam unlike in upper Assam.
