Maximo Carrizo, a 14-year-old teenager, signed a deal with New York City FC (NYCFC) on Monday.
The player trained at the club thus becomes the youngest athlete in the history of Major League Soccer (MLS) to sign with a club on the circuit. The midfielder obtained this contract valid until the conclusion of the 2027 season on his birthday.
“This is a historic moment for both our club and MLS,” NYCFC sporting director David Lee said in a statement from his organization. He is a special player, extremely talented, and it has been very exciting to watch his development over the last few years within our academy.
Carrizo is the 10th player trained within the organization to agree with the first team of the NYCFC.
The previous MLS record holder was Axel Kei, who signed with Real Salt Lake last January at the age of 14 years and 15 days.
