Trump says he won’t run again in 2028 presidential election if he loses in November | Donald Trump

Donald Trump said in an interview published Sunday that he does not think he will run for president again in 2028 if he loses the White House race this year.

In an interview with the television show Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, the former US president – who ran in 2016 and 2020 – was asked if he saw himself running again in four years.

“No, I don’t think so,” Trump replied. “I don’t see that at all.”

He said: “I hope we will succeed.”

In the polls, Kamala Harris is ahead of Trump in most polls, after the latter had already established a solid lead over Joe Biden – before he ended his re-election campaign after a disastrous debate performance. But the presidential race remains tight ahead of the November election, particularly in the key swing states that hold the key to victory.

Attkisson asked Trump what positions he saw in his administration for figures such as tech billionaire Elon Musk, former Democratic congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and former independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr. Trump responded that he had not made deals with anyone because “it’s not appropriate to do so” and “it’s too early.”

He did, however, outline projects that Musk, Gabbard and Kennedy, all of whom are former Democrats or party loyalists, could potentially work on if he were elected.

“Bobby will do great things in health and the environment,” he said. “He’s interested in other countries that don’t use chemicals, that use a lot less than we do, and where people are healthier than in the United States, which is not a very healthy country.”

Kennedy has been campaigning for Trump since ending his own independent bid for the presidency to support the Republican candidate.

Trump has described Gabbard, a military veteran who was elected as a Democrat to Congress in Hawaii before retiring, as “a common-sense person.” She recently said she would be “honored to serve” under a second Trump administration. Gabbard ran for president as a Democrat in 2020 but chose to support the Republican nominee in this year’s election.

In an interview on Fox News, Gabbard said she was aiming for a role in foreign policy.

“I knew her a little bit and it was a great honor to have her here,” Trump said in Sunday’s interview.

Last month, Gabbard and Kennedy were both named to Trump’s transition team, which would help Trump choose policies and personnel if he were to win the White House in November.

Trump has hailed Musk as someone who can push policies to cut federal government costs, an idea he has floated alongside the creation of a “government efficiency commission.”

“Elon is Elon,” he said. “He’s a big cost-cutter. He’s always been very good at it, and I’m very good at it. But Elon, I’ll tell you, he’ll come in and he’ll say, ‘Here’s what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to do this.’ He’s so interested in that, he feels there’s a lot of waste and fat in this country, and he’s right.”
