Cards Against Humanity files lawsuit against SpaceX over Texas trespassing allegations
Gaming company Cards Against Humanity has filed a lawsuit against billionaire Elon Musk’s spacecraft launch company SpaceX, claiming the spacecraft launch company illegally trespassed on land in South Texas and damaged vacant land owned by the gaming company.
The complaint accuses SpaceX of treating the gaming company’s Cameron County property as its own for at least the past six months. The company is seeking $15 million in damages, including for loss of vegetation on the land.
“Despite the fact that CAH owns the Property and SpaceX has no interest in it or any right to its use, SpaceX has ignored CAH’s rights to the Property, essentially displacing CAH and depriving CAH of any use whatsoever of the Property,” the suit reads.
Cards Against Humanity claims that its once “pristine” property, filled with wild grass and cacti, was used by SpaceX as a construction staging site, which the complaint says changed the entire dynamic of the area. SpaceX acquired vacant land along the same road as the property and placed buildings around the area.

Machinery and piles of materials are now visible on the property, as shown in photos included in the lawsuit.
In 2017, Cards Against Humanity created a crowdfunding campaign, CAH Saves America, to purchase land that would block construction of a border wall proposed by former President Donald Trump along the Texas border with Mexico.
The company said 150,000 people paid $15 each to protect a piece of land along the U.S.-Mexico border, also just miles from SpaceX’s launch center.

“Seven years ago, 150,000 people paid us $15 to protect a pristine piece of land on the U.S.-Mexico border from racist billionaire Donald Trump’s stupid wall,” the company said on its website about the lawsuit. “Unfortunately, an even richer and racist billionaire, Elon Musk, snuck up behind us and completely fucked up that land with gravel, tractors, and space junk.”
If Cards Against Humanity wins the lawsuit, the company said the net proceeds from the lawsuit will be split equally among the 150,000 backers, up to $100 each.
Cards Against Humanity said the land has been maintained in its natural state and has a “no trespassing” sign to warn people they are about to step onto private property, according to the lawsuit.

“150,000 people gave us their hard-earned money, and in return we swore to protect this land from racist billionaires and their vain and stupid schemes,” the company said on its website dedicated to the lawsuit.
According to Reuters, several people in South Texas have also expressed concerns about Musk encroaching on their properties.
