Report: Cowboys meet with former Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook

The Dallas Cowboys are meeting with four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports.

Cook is reportedly expected to travel to the Cowboys on Monday to meet with both sides. It is unclear how close the two sides are to reaching an agreement.

Cook, 29, was one of the NFL’s most productive backs during his prime with the Minnesota Vikings. He made four straight Pro Bowls from 2019-22, throwing for more than 1,300 yards in each of those campaigns.

Cook underwent shoulder surgery in the 2023 offseason and the Vikings released him before the start of training camp. He signed with the New York Jets and played 15 games in a committee role.

He saw a significant drop-off in his production in New York, posting 214 rushing yards on an average of 3.2 yards per carry. His previous career low was 4.4 yards per carry in 2022.

The Jets released Cook before the end of the season and he signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs. He carried the ball eight times for 23 yards in Baltimore’s divisional round win over the Houston Texans. He did not play in Baltimore’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. He was a free agent throughout the offseason.

The Cowboys are likely meeting with Cook in hopes he can regain some of his previous form after a relatively healthy offseason. Dallas enters the season with a running backs committee led by 29-year-old Ezekiel Elliott, who joined the Cowboys after spending the 2023 season with the New England Patriots. Rico Dowdle and Royce Freeman are listed behind Elliott on the depth chart.

Elliott was the most productive of the three last season, rushing for 645 yards and three touchdowns on 3.5 yards per carry, and passing for 313 yards and two touchdowns on 51 receptions as a part-time starter in New England.
