New zombie survival roguelike hits 95% Steam rating after 1.0 launch

It’s hard to make a zombie game stand out these days. After the deluge of undead-themed projects that have come out over the past decade, it takes an innovative premise and solid execution to grab an audience’s attention. Luckily, Terminus: Zombie Survivors seems to succeed on both counts. It has the freeform design of State of Decay, visuals reminiscent of Project Zomboid and the close-quarters combat of Resident Evil Gaiden on the Game Boy Color, and the top-down perspective of Darkwood (and early Grand Theft Auto games). It also combines these influences successfully enough to garner positive attention on Steam after its 1.0 release.

Terminus: Zombie Survivors is, as its name suggests, a zombie game in which the player tries to survive as long as possible. It takes the form of a roguelike, with randomly generated maps each game, and features turn-based combat, 15 different character classes, survival systems such as cooking and crafting, and a variety of possible endings depending on how the player manages to escape or cure the undead epidemic.

All of these features seem to be working well in the final version of the game. Terminus: Zombie Survivors was released in 1.0 last week, and now that it’s out of a long period of Early Access, it’s been getting good reviews on Steam. At the time of writing, it holds a 95% or overwhelmingly positive rating based on 1,958 player reviews, which should help it stand out from other indie zombie games.
