Apple’s new iOS 18 feature for apps has users worried it will allow people to easily ‘cheat’

Apple has announced new features in the upcoming iOS 18, and some fear this will make it easy for their partners to cheat.

Users will soon be allowed to lock and hide apps on their iPhone’s home screen once the new update launches in the United States this fall, the company announced following the Worldwide Developers Conference in Apple Park in California on Monday.

The company explained that this feature is intended to help people keep their banking apps private and to prevent children from accessing certain apps like Amazon so that they don’t make wild, unsupervised purchases.

“Users can now lock an app, and for added privacy, they can hide an app by moving it to a locked, hidden apps folder,” the company explained.

“When an app is locked or hidden, content such as messages or emails contained within the app are hidden from search, notifications, and other places in the system.”

However, not everyone shares Apple’s vision, and some worry that it gives their loved ones the opportunity to cheat.

It’s already easy to hide apps on iPhone by turning off the ability to search for them in Siri suggestions or burying them deep in a folder, but iOS 18’s new feature adds another layer of protection for those who choose to be unfaithful.

But the new hidden apps feature allows the user to hide the app icon and name on the home screen and even pause notifications.

“Locked and hidden apps give users peace of mind that information they want to keep private, such as notifications and app content, will not be inadvertently seen by others,” Apple said Monday .

“Users can now lock an app; and for more privacy, they can hide an app by moving it to a locked and hidden apps folder.

However, creating a “Hidden App” folder will show as such on the home screen.

Apple users can also lock apps already programmed on their phone, such as Mail, Messages, Notes, Phone, Photos, and Safari.

These apps can only be configured to open with Face ID.

The new feature immediately sparked some interesting reactions on X following Monday’s announcement.

Included in the new iOS 18 update, Apple also announced that users will be able to customize their home screen for the iPhone, allowing you to rearrange the icons the way you want them to appear – unlike the system current grid that the company has been using ever since. the release of the first iPhone in 2007.

Users can also change the color of your app icons as they wish.

The tech giant also said the update will include Apple Intelligence, a new AI-based system that responds to prompts, creates new text and images, and resolves issues for its users.

Apple Intelligence will offer a rewrite tool that users can use to help them reword tricky messages. The tool can be adjusted to appear user-friendly, professional, or concise depending on users’ message.
