This bet did not succeed.
A New Jersey woman says she won more than $2 million on an Atlantic City slot machine – but the casino isn’t coughing up the dough, leaving the septuagenarian ‘very anxious’ about not being able to help her homeless son .
Roney Beal, 72, claims she won big on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Bally’s Casino in February, but when she went to collect her winnings, the casino claimed the jackpot was due to a technical problem and did not count so not, she told The Post on Saturday.
“I just think it’s not right that they’re not paying,” Beal said. “What’s the point of playing then?”
After losing $1,000 on various machines that day, Beal revisited the Wheel of Fortune slot machine. When she gave him six or seven more spins, she said she hit the jackpot.
She said she thought she was lucky because the machine said out loud, “You’ve won,” after the Wheel of Fortune landed on “Jackpot.”
Then 3D gold coins came out and a blue light went off, she said.
“And then the people behind me stood up and they said, ‘oh my god, oh my god.’ This guy says, “Madam, you’re a millionaire.” A millionaire,” she said.
But when she used a call button to call for help, a tilt message appeared, indicating that the machine was unplayable due to an error or malfunction.
A Bally employee told her she hadn’t won before telling her to leave the casino.
Beal’s attorney, Mike Di Croce, said he is preparing a lawsuit against Bally’s and its gaming company, International Game Technology (IGT), for $2.56 million because it hit a $1 jackpot .28 million dollars with a multiplier.
Additionally, he plans to file an emotional distress claim for more than $1 million. Beal said she was still “very anxious.”
“I’m upset because I want money and I’m going to help people with this money,” she said. Among these people is her homeless son, for whom she wants to buy a caravan.
Bally’s Casino blamed IGT.
“Bally’s has no comment on this incident as we are only the casino hosting the machine,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“IGT is handling the payments and it would be best to get a comment at that time.”
An IGT spokesperson told the Post Saturday evening that it was “cooperating with the casino operator’s investigation into this matter.”
The New Jersey State Casino Control Commission, the independent licensing authority for New Jersey casinos, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“Bally’s says, ‘Come to our casino, play our machines,'” Di Croce said. “There is no information that there is a contract with a third party. Ultimately, Bally’s should also be responsible.
“Bally’s can’t hide behind this other company.”
Beal, who had a heart attack a year ago, said she was “hoping and praying” to get the money, especially before she died.
