A nine-year-old boy is in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the chest by his father, who pulled out a gun thinking they were being followed after an alleged road rage incident.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Friday evening, June 11, in eastern Houston, Texas. KTRK reported that the father believed they were being followed by another car, which caused him to pull out his gun.
As they walked home, the gun accidentally exploded as the father attempted to put it back in its holster. He took his son to hospital where he was found to be in critical condition but is expected to survive.
It is not known whether the father and son were indeed followed or whether a road rage incident occurred.
Houston Police said the father should not face any charges because law enforcement believes the incident was an accident.
The father is cooperating with the police in their investigation. The child is recovering at the Texas Children’s Hospital.
