Experts have said people who don’t follow proper Covid behavior and flout the mask mandate are a major reason for the rapid spread of the disease in the nation’s capital.
According to a survey conducted by an online platform, eight out of 10 households surveyed in Delhi-NCR have one or more people who experienced symptoms of viral fever in the past 30 days. The survey received over 11,000 responses from residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad. Sixty-three percent of respondents were men and 37 percent were women.
According to the LocalCircles study, 54% of respondents said they had at least two family members who had one or more symptoms of viral fever such as fever, runny nose, cough, headache, body aches, among others, within the last 30 days. Twenty-three percent of respondents said they had four or more family members who had these symptoms. Compared to these figures, only 42% of households had one or more people who showed symptoms of viral fever during the corresponding period last year. The coronavirus likely led to the surge this year. The online platform also reported that in most cases people opted for home kits to test if they have Covid or a viral fever. Delhi has reported an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past two to three weeks.
