75-year-old man seriously injured after being set on fire in downtown Chicago – NBC Chicago

Police are looking for a suspect they believe set fire to a 75-year-old man in downtown Chicago early Wednesday, seriously injuring him.

The man was lying on the ground around 2:50 a.m. in the 400 block of North Wabash Avenue on the Near North Side when an unknown male suspect approached and poured flammable liquid on him, Chicago police said .

The suspect then set him on fire and left the scene on foot.

A security guard from a nearby building used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, police said.

The man suffered burns to nearly half of his body and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives are investigating.
