6 injured, 1 killed in shooting outside bar in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood

One man is dead and six other people are hospitalized in connection with an early morning shooting in downtown Denver, according to Denver police.

Five men and a woman are among the injured. The extent of their injuries has not been made public by the ministry.

“There is evidence that multiple weapons were fired,” DPD said in a social media post about the shooting.

Doug Schepman, a DPD spokesman, told CBS News Colorado at 8 a.m. that it was unclear if any suspects were on the run or if the gunfire came only from those who were injured.

The shooting happened shortly after 3 a.m. near the intersection of 33rd Avenue East and Hudson Street. Neighborhood residents reported hearing several gunshots.

An officer at the scene told a CBS News Colorado staff member that the incident apparently happened outside a Hell’s Lovers bar. Hell’s Lovers is an organization described as a “one percent” group originating from Chicago with chapters in eight states. The “one percent” claim to be the 1% of motorcycle gangs who do not follow the laws, as defined by the National Library of Medicine. The NLM said in 2014 that members of these gangs posed a threat to hospital emergency room staff.

Nineteen members of Denver’s “Hell’s Lovers” chapter were arrested in January 2012 on federal gun and drug charges.
