5 teens face charges after friend was fatally pushed off boat

Five college students face criminal charges for allegedly covering up their friend’s death in 2019 after he was pushed off a party boat in Texas by the girl he was kissing and fell into the ship’s propeller .

Jack Elliott, 19, died after falling into Lake Travis in Austin while drinking and partying with a group of friends from Texas Christian University in October 2019, the OC Register reported.

His tragic death sparked a years-long quest for justice by his parents after it was revealed that Elliott’s friends allegedly lied to authorities about how the teenager went too far and then dumped his booze in the lake before calling 911.

The students were indicted by a Travis County grand jury late last year after Elliott’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit to force them to testify under penalty of perjury about the circumstances surrounding the death of their son.

After initially telling cops and Elliott’s parents that she had no idea how he fell, Elle Weber – who was driving the boat, said in an affidavit that she saw their friend, Delaney Brennan , “push” Elliott overboard.

“Delaney and Jack were at the front of the boat, flirting and kissing. She gave Jack a ‘playful little push’ and he fell off the boat,” Weber said in the statement.

Another unnamed teenager said in an affidavit that Brennan kept saying afterwards, “He fell. I didn’t want to push him.

Brennan later had Elliott’s initials tattooed on him, saying in her sworn deposition that she “always wanted to have something to remember him by.”

Some of Elliott’s friends invoked their Fifth Amendment amid the grand jury investigation.

His parents filed their lawsuit, which was eventually settled privately after a Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife report said Elliott had been struck by a propeller multiple times after being pushed by- over the railing by Brennan.

This report also noted that “false statements were given to officers” about what happened.

Among the false stories, friends who allegedly peddled Elliott’s death included that he had somersaulted backwards into the water and fell down vomiting.

Delaney Brennan allegedly pushed Elliott and knocked him into Lake Travis in Austin, Texas, where he was hit by the boat's propeller.

All five students are scheduled to appear in Travis County Court in the coming weeks following their charges, according to online records.

Brennan ended up being charged with a felony charge of tampering with evidence regarding the deletion of cellphone video and Weber with a misdemeanor charge of giving false information to a police officer.

Another teenager, Carson Neel, was charged with a charge of tampering with physical evidence after he allegedly threw the booze overboard, while Anthony Salazar was charged with a misdemeanor charge of perjury.

Joshua Evans has also been charged with misdemeanor supplying alcohol to a minor.
