5.3 magnitude earthquake hits west Texas and southern New Mexico


A 5.3 magnitude earthquake rocked western Texas and southern New Mexico, the US Geological Survey said Wednesday afternoon.

The epicenter was northwest of Pecos, Texas, about 170 miles east of El Paso, the National Weather Service in El Paso tweeted.

US Geological Survey data indicates the quake was felt as far east as Dallas and Austin and as far north as Roswell, New Mexico.
