40 migrants from ‘special interest’ countries arrested in West Texas border area

Border patrol agents in the Del Rio area have arrested large numbers of migrants from countries “of special interest” so far this month. The group included migrants from countries known to have terrorist activities.

Del Rio Area Chief Patrol Officer Jason D. Owens tweeted a report indicating the arrest of 40 migrants classified as “non-Mexican.” The group included migrants from countries designated as “special interest” nations, including Syria, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

“Knowing who or what is crossing our borders is essential for border security,” Chief Owens tweeted.

The arrests come amid a growing wave of migrant crossings in the Del Rio area. Owens reported the arrest of 2,700 migrants over the past weekend. Almost 400 of the arrests took place in two large groups.

“Although groups of over 100 people open their eyes, they only made up about 15% of our apprehensions,” the chief tweeted. “That’s 2,300 other migrants spread across the area. All in just three days!

Among the 2,700 apprehensions were more than 70 unaccompanied foreign children.

“Many tell us that they have no idea where their parents are now,” he added.

The Del Rio area is experiencing a wave of migrant crossings that has made it the busiest of the nine border areas in the southwest, reported Randy Clark of Breitbart Texas.

In the first six days of 2022, agents in the Del Rio sector apprehended more than 4,000 migrants, according to a source operating under the aegis of US customs and border protection.

“The latest increase in trafficking has put the Del Rio sector ahead of the pack this year, we apprehended more than 4,000 migrants in just six days,” the source said.

“At least for now, according to the source, the Del Rio sector has a slight lead on apprehensions in the first six days of 2022,” Clark reported. “According to the source, more than 19,000 migrants have been apprehended since the start of the new year – more than 4,000 in Del Rio alone.”

Border patrol agents apprehended more than 1.9 million migrants who illegally crossed the southwestern border with Mexico between ports of entry in 2021, Breitbart Texas reported. All of these illegal crossings, except about 75,000, occurred after Biden took office. Another half a million migrants managed to avoid apprehension and sneak into the United States
