4 injured after gunman opens fire in store
A gunman opened fire at an Ohio Walmart Monday night and injured four people before killing himself, authorities said.
The suspect had entered the Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio, a city of about 46,000 in the Dayton metro area, around 8:30 p.m. and began shooting a gun, according to the Beavercreek Police Department. Four people were injured and transported to area hospitals.
“The current condition of the victims is unknown,” Beavercreek Police Capt. Scott Molnar said at a news conference Monday evening.
The shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. The suspect’s name, motive for the attack and other details were not immediately released.
Police added that no shots were fired by responding officers. Earlier on social media, police said the store had been cleared and secured and that there was no “active threat.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, FBI and other local agencies are assisting Beavercreek Police in the investigation.
“We are heartbroken by what happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio, store. The situation remains evolving and we are working closely with on-site investigators,” Walmart said in a statement. reported WHIO-TV.

Part of the Dayton metropolitan area and located just east of the city, Beavercreek has a population of approximately 46,000.
It is the largest city in Greene County, Ohio.
Another Walmart shooting: Child injured after taking out mother’s gun in store
An accidental shooting at another Ohio Walmart Thursday morning left a child injured.
A 2-year-old boy is recovering from minor injuries after police in south-central Ohio say he fired a gun inside a Walmart, hitting part of the building. It happened in Waverly, a town about 60 miles south of Columbus.
According to an account provided by the toddler’s mother, her son removed a 9mm Taurus from her purse, causing “the unintentional discharge of the weapon,” police wrote in a news release.
No other injuries were reported. The child’s mother, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged in Pike County Court with child endangerment, police said.
Virginia Walmart shooting nears one-year anniversary
Wednesday will mark one year since a store manager opened fire before a staff meeting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, killing six employees.
The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a handgun was found at the scene, police said.
Police said the shooter was carrying several magazines.
Police identified those killed as Brian Pendleton, 38, a Chesapeake resident; Kellie Pyle, 52; Lorenzo Gamble, 43; and Randy Blevins, 70, as well as Tyneka Johnson, 22, of nearby Portsmouth. The name of the sixth victim, a 16-year-old boy, has not been released due to his age.
Gun violence continues in the United States
Monday’s shooting is the latest incident in a wave of gun violence across the United States. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more than 38,000 gun deaths this year and 609 mass shootings — which is defined by the archive as four victims being shot, injured or killed, not including the shooter.
The Dayton metro area has also been the scene of gun violence. In 2019, a 24-year-old man shot and killed nine people and injured 27 others in the Oregon District. The shooter was later shot and killed by police.
In 2014, a 22-year-old man was shot and killed by a police officer at the same Walmart where the shooting occurred in Beavercreek on Monday. He was holding a pellet gun he got from the store and police believed he was armed with a real gun.
