The 2022 Deshaun Watson saga picks up where it left off in early 2021.
While Watson will have no charges brought against him for the criminal cases he was facing, the Houston Texans will still be looking to get away from him.
At the start of 2021, Houston was looking for teams that would trade for Watson.
Most of the teams decided against it due to Watson’s legal woes.
Now that the legal issues are settled, we can discuss which team will trade for Watson.
So who are the top three contenders for the Deshaun Watson draw?
3. Miami Dolphins
Last year’s nominee also becomes this year’s nominee.
Last year, the Dolphins seemed to be ahead of the pack for Watson.
This was because the Dolphins had the draft capital and players that Houston wanted for a trade with Watson.
However, the Dolphins slip down this list due to Brain Flores being fired.
Flores wanted Watson in Miami last season, and Watson wanted to play for Flores.
With Flores gone, Watson could invoke his “no-trade” rights, which are in his contract with the Texans.
If Watson were to do that, it would knock Miami out of the running for him, even though they have everything the Texans want in a trade for Watson.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
With Ben Roethlisberger retiring, the Steelers will need a new QB under center.
Watson would bring a dynamic to Pittsburgh that they could use for the 2022 season.
Watson is a massive upgrade for Pittsburgh over their quarterbacks on the roster.
Pittsburgh has expressed interest in Watson, and they have the capital project to strike a deal with the Texans.
What puts Pittsburgh at number two is that they are also considering the NFL Draft for a quarterback.
Watson would be the best choice, as he has NFL playoff experience.
That could be the key to a deal with Pittsburgh eager to make the playoffs again.
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers are another team that saw its quarterback retire at the end of the 2021 season.
After the Buccaneers lost to the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round, Tom Brady decided to retire.
Tampa Bay risks returning to its below-average season performance without a proven quarterback under center.
Watson can give the Bucs the experience they want at quarterback.
Vegas also considers the Bucs the favorites to acquire Watson in a trade.

Watson would have the stable coaching he seeks, as well as attacking tools at his disposal.
Brady proved the Bucs are a solid team with the right quarterback under center.
Watson has the last word
As many teams seek to sue Watson, Watson will have the final say on the matter.
His “no trade” clause can only be lifted by him, putting the Texans at his mercy in trade negotiations.
Watson expressed his desire to go to a winning team with stable coaching.
BREAKING: By source close to his camp, #Texans QB Deshaun Watson: ‘Don’t want to be a deal with Carolina #Panthers as it currently stands. (Watson) wants a stable coach and leadership, and a competitive roster. Carolina does not provide this at this time” #NFL

The Bucs have that, which gives them the edge if they look to trade for Watson.
The Bucs have the best team and the best coaching of all these teams. I think eventually Watson will want to come to Tampa and I think the Bucs will make it happen https://t.co/de7Lqj0Zy8
