3 NL East teams that turn out to be hot in June

When people think of June, they think of warm weather and summer.

For MLB teams in eastern Newfoundland and Labrador, it’s all about blistering winning streaks.

Three of the five NL East teams are on fire this month, looking to dethrone the NL East leaders New York Mets.

With these three teams all battling for that top spot, the Mets will need to play better to hold onto their lead.

So which three NL East teams are proving to be hot in June?

3. Miami Marlins

Although the Miami Marlins didn’t come out of the NL East basement, they did string together a few wins.

The Marlins have back-to-back shock wins over the AL West-leading Houston Astros ahead of Sunday’s final game against them.

They also swept the Nationals in June and shared a series against the San Francisco Giants.

Since the start of June, they have won eight of 11 games, or 27-30 for the season.

They are now just ten games from first place after falling further behind to start June.

While throwing helped them in some of these games, their offense helped save them in other games.

Jesus Aguilar has 11 hits going into Sunday’s game and is on a four-game hitting streak.

His seven RBIs in June also helped the Marlins in key games this month.

2. Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies made a monumental move in the 2022 MLB season.

That decision was to fire their manager, Joe Girardi, and the Phillies have gone undefeated since that decision.

The layoff came in June after the team dug a 12-game hole in eastern Newfoundland and Labrador.

They were 22-29 when they fired Girardi, a respected manager who was known as a winner in New York.

However, his winning ways never took off in Philadelphia during his two seasons there.

But now the Phillies are winning again, currently on a nine-game winning streak and winning eight since Girardi was fired.

That now gives the Phillies a 30-29 record and eight games on the first, helping them win four games.

While their nine-game winning streak is impressive, another NL East team is making the most noise.

1. Atlanta Braves

Seeing the defending World Series champions on this list is a simple decision.

Although they started the season badly, they moved into high gear.

They are 10-0 heading into their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

That winning streak leaves them undefeated in June, and some of those wins have been biting.

Two games against the Colorado Rockies saw the team go to extra innings.

One of those two overtime games was 0-0 after nine innings.

Throwing from the bullpen saved the Braves in some of those games, while their offense fizzled out in other games.

Three of their last ten wins have seen them score in double figures overall.

They have now established 5.5 games on the first game on Sunday’s slate.

With the streak they’re on, it looks like no one can stop the defending champions in June.
