3 in custody in death of 13-year-old in Washington, Missouri | Saint-Louis news headlines

WASHINGTON, Mo. ( – Police in Washington, Mo. are investigating the death of a 13-year-old boy at a house on 7th Street.

Police said 13-year-old Zackary Foster was sleeping above the house of her 12-year-old friend in the 600 block of West 7th Street over the weekend. A detective tells News 4 he believes the boys were experimenting with the parents’ drugs overnight. Specifically, police said they found methamphetamine and other prescription drugs in the house.

Foster was found dead in an upstairs bedroom on Sunday. Police have confirmed this is currently under investigation as a drug overdose death.

“Last night around 10:30 pm they were here throwing a soccer ball right here on the pitch. They never thought about it, they went to bed and eight hours later it’s all crazy,” Scott said. Brueschke.

Brueschke lives on 7th Street. He said it was the last time he had seen the seventh-grader at Washington Middle School.

“I was up for about half an hour and the next thing you know I hear sirens and they get louder and louder and then they stopped. I thought ‘what’s going on ? “I looked out the front door and they started coming here to the neighbors, the ambulances, everything, everyone is coming and going,” Brueschke explained.

Detectives said it was typical for him to be in this house for a sleepover.

“I know her [deceased teen’s mother] son had spent the night there several nights in the past. I don’t know what she knows about the family itself, ”Detective Sergeant Steve Sitzes said in Washington, Mo.

Sitzes said the mother of the late teenager had done virtually everything she could as a parent to keep her child safe. He describes this incident today as a “real tragedy”.

“She had an app on her son’s phone that would allow him to configure geofences where he was, and that would send him alerts that he was outside the geofence. She had it, she knew. where he was in the house and knew what time he had arrived and that he had not left, but tragedy struck anyway, ”Sitzes explained.

While this mother is childless on Sunday, the children who lived in this 7th Street house, a 7-year-old girl and the 12-year-old boy, are in state custody. The 46-year-old mother, father and tenant were all arrested on various drug charges, including possession and paraphernalia. Police said they found methamphetamine in the house and said further charges could be laid against the parents. Their names have not yet been released but have confirmed the men are 59 and 62.

Sitzes said the additional charges could be, but not limited to, manslaughter and endangering the well-being of a child.

“For the family, the boy who lost his life, they will have a difficult road to follow and if there has been any wrongdoing then I hope they will be properly prosecuted for what they did”, Brueschke said.

Washington, Mo. Police urge parents to be aware of and involved in the lives of their children. They recommend getting to know your child’s friend’s parents before allowing a sleepover.
