Another mass shooting in Miami-Dade and a possibly related car crash killed three people and sent five or six others to hospital with gunshot wounds, Miami-Dade police said Sunday morning.
The shot woman was an officer with the Florida Department of Corrections. Two other women, who could have been shot, died when their car crashed into a wall at Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus, Miami-Dade Police Director Freddy Ramirez said.
Ramirez said a gun was found in the wrecked car, but the actual relationship to the shooting is still under investigation.
While speaking with media outside the crime scene tape near Southwest 104th Street and 109th Court, Ramirez said people were leaving a mall graduation party around 2 a.m. when the shooters turned up. are wound up in one or two cars and started to pull. He said investigators were looking for a dark car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu and a white Toyota Camry.
A week after a Memorial Day weekend drenched in bullets and deaths, including the attack on a banquet hall in Northwest Miami-Dade Country Club in Miami that killed three people and injured 20, one reporter asked Ramirez if Miami-Dade was safe.
“The question you need to ask yourself is, ‘Is America safe? Ramirez said. “This type of violence, it’s not like it only happens in Miami-Dade County. This scourge of gun violence is happening across our country, in all of our youth, in all of our communities.
“This is the new pandemic. “
This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
