21st century gun control, a revamp of the 1865 “black codes”

National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) President Philip T. Smith spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and told them that gun control in the 21st century is a return to “black codes.” of the 19th century.

Smith told the committee that the NAAGA is “a pro-2A, pro-constitutional, pro-black guns organization with no excuses.”

He made it clear that he sees himself as someone who speaks out on behalf of black Americans who own guns, as well as those who have never been licensed to do so.

Smith recalled the “black codes” that were used throughout the post-Civil War South to keep black Americans from owning guns and being able to defend themselves. He said, “The purpose of these laws was to keep the black community in check and helpless.”

He said: “Today, in 2022, preventing American citizens from buying guns has the same effect as the black codes of 1865. The end result is that people, especially black people, are unable to obtain a firearm, which makes them vulnerable. To me, that’s unacceptable and un-American.

Smith also pointed to the increase in gun ownership among black women, saying, “Black women are coming, and they are coming in droves. Currently they are the fastest growing group of new gun owners in the United States and I am proud to say they are the backbone of the National African American Gun Association.

Never before have so many black Americans had guns. It is estimated that at least 14 million people currently have guns in their homes.
