FIFA revealed on Thursday that Vancouver has entered the selection process for North American cities to host the 2026 World Cup.

British Columbia’s largest market will take the place of Montreal, which previously withdrew in July 2021 following the withdrawal of financial support for the project from the Quebec government. In Vancouver, the initiators of the bid want to hold games at BC Place. The stadium has already hosted the final of the Women’s World Cup in 2015, which more than 50,000 spectators attended.
In Canada, Toronto and Edmonton are also in line to host the prestigious competition which will also take place in the United States and Mexico. On this occasion, 48 teams will participate in the tournament, a first in history. The selection procedure is still ongoing.
