2024 Singapore Grand Prix report and highlights: Lando Norris dominates Singapore GP, reduces Max Verstappen’s title lead again

A stewards’ note confirmed they had investigated a skirmish at Turn 7 between Gasly and Hulkenberg, but ultimately decided not to take further action, before Leclerc – who had just defended vigorously from Russell – finally stopped for new tyres on lap 37.

With Tsunoda and Gasly having done the same, Piastri was the last driver still on his starting set of tyres, but the Australian and McLaren changed that when they pitted for new hard tyres on lap 39 and gave up a temporary second place behind Norris.

After those stops, Norris led Verstappen by more than 20 seconds, with Russell 15 seconds behind in third. Hamilton was just behind his team-mate in fourth, but was quickly caught and passed by Piastri, who made the most of his fresher tyres.

Sainz and Leclerc were sixth and seventh, ahead of Alonso, Hulkenberg and Perez, with Colapinto now outside the points-paying positions in P11, followed by RB pair Ricciardo and Tsunoda – the latter shouting on the radio to be allowed past.

RB and Ferrari eventually swapped driver positions, propelling Leclerc to seventh and Tsunoda to 12th. “If you keep this pace, we should catch Hamilton at the end,” Leclerc was told, after lighting up the timesheets with green and purple sector times.

Piastri continued his charge to close in on Russell and get around the Mercedes on the outside at Turn 7. Could he get away and challenge Verstappen? It would be a tough task given the 18-second gap with just 16 laps to go.
