fter a few days of preliminary action, the 2022 Winter Olympics officially begin on Friday, with the Opening Ceremony taking center stage.

Beijing is making history as the first host of the Summer and Winter Olympics, having staged the latter just 14 years ago. The iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium which hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in 2008 will do so again this time around.

In total, the Games will feature 109 events across 15 disciplines in seven different sports, including seven events that will see their first Olympic champions crowned.

Friday’s sporting action before the opening ceremonies includes ice hockey, figure skating and curling.

Today’s coverage and schedules

Today (Friday 5 February) BBC sports action coverage is on the iPlayer and BBC Sport website from 03:30 to 07:30 GMT. Eurosport has live coverage on its two main channels from 1.30am to 8.30am GMT.

As in Tokyo last summer, Beijing is eight hours ahead of the UK, meaning UK fans have to contend with late nights and early starts if they fancy attending the live action.
