BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) — Two people were killed Sunday after being hit by an Amtrak train in the southern Maine town of Biddeford, police confirmed.

An Amtrak representative said the individuals were encroaching on the tracks when they came into contact with the train, WGME reported. “Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident,” the rep said.

The two individuals were struck on Sunday around 11 a.m. Passengers on the train from Portland to Boston were transferred to another train, police said.
