2 people washed away by floodwaters at Guntersville State Park

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Two people were swept away by floodwaters from Guntersville State Park on Sunday.

The town of Guntersville experienced a severe flash flood after regular heavy rains over Labor Day weekend.

According to Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail, two people, a man and a woman, were swept out of the park by floodwaters, carrying them through a culvert.

A Hanceville police officer helped pull the two victims out of the creek. They were taken to a local hospital where they are both expected to recover.
