First responders were dispatched to the scene around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Two miners became trapped under sand while digging on a Jersey Shore beach on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Police and emergency medical services responded to a barrier island beach in Toms River, New Jersey, shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday “to reports of minors being trapped in the sand as it was collapsing around them while digging,” the Toms River Police Department posted on Facebook.

Police urged people not to intervene in the area during the rescue.

Live footage from the scene Tuesday night showed more than a dozen first responders near shore.
