2 dead, others injured, hospital says

Two people have died and several others have been injured, according to a spokesperson for a Texas hospital after a report of an active shooter caused an elementary school to be locked down. Police say a suspect is in custody.

An active shooter was reported Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District said in a statement on Twitter. The Uvalde Police Department said on Facebook that the shooter was taken into custody.

Two patients had died upon arrival at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, spokesman Tom Nordwick told USA TODAY. Thirteen children are being treated in the emergency room at Uvalde Memorial Hospital and a 45-year-old man was brought in after sustaining “an abrasion”, Nordwick said.

A 66-year-old woman is in critical condition and a child is treated at University Health, the San Antonio Hospital said in a statement posted on social media.
