2 dead, 14 others hospitalized in Memphis block party shooting

Authorities estimate that about 200 to 300 people attended the block party.

Two people are dead and 14 others are hospitalized after a block party turned deadly in a Memphis park Saturday, Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said at a news conference.

At the scene, officers found five gunshot victims, Davis said. Three were transported to area hospitals in critical condition and two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Davis said officers were later informed that 11 additional gunshot victims had arrived via private vehicle at area hospitals.

Authorities estimate about 200 to 300 people attended a block party in Orange Mound Park on Saturday when the shooting took place. Davis said preliminary information suggests the block party was not permitted.

Police do not have any suspects in custody at this time, but believe at least two people fired guns during this shooting.
