2.3 million new accounts opened in 2021 (BAM)

2.3 million new accounts were opened in 2021 after 2.1 million in 2020, according to Bank Al-Maghrib’s latest statistics on bank accounts.

At the end of December 2021, 31.2 million open accounts had been identified at the level of the Central Bank Accounts, up 5% compared to 2020, reveals BAM in its document.

In addition, 17.5 million people hold at least one bank account, of which less than 4% are legal persons, i.e. 644,338, as well as more than 96% natural persons.

For the number of people who opened an account for the first time, there were 578,617 individuals in 2021 compared to 543,057 in 2020.
