17-year-old falls to death on flight over Sam Houston’s toll ramp after major accident

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A 17-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being in an accident and then died while flying over Sam Houston’s toll ramp.

The Sam Houston Tollway / North Freeway interchange is one of the busiest for drivers entering and exiting the metro area.

Shortly after midnight, Houston police received a call regarding a teenager who had been in a major accident with a single vehicle at the interchange. His car was disabled in the overflight lanes, police said.

Witnesses told police the teenager, likely fearing for her safety from speeding cars, fled her vehicle after the crash and jumped over the barrier wall.

Sadly, police said she likely died instantly.

“It looks like maybe she was trying to get away from the rest of the traffic on the freeway. You know how it is at night, she might have tried to escape, maybe didn’t know what was going on underneath, unfortunately, ”Lt. Mark said. said Contreras.

Police said the teenager was apparently disoriented and confused as to where she was after the crash, and may not have realized there was a drop on the other side of the wall .

The victim’s car had cardboard plates. The police did not disclose his identity.
