A high school student in northwest Indiana is facing rape charges for allegedly assaulting a classmate during an active shooting practice at school.
The 17-year-old Hammond Morton High School student was charged as an adult with rape, forcible confinement and sexual assault, and arrested on Wednesday.
Police were called to the school on November 12, where the 16-year-old girl was crying, according to court documents. She told police she was in music class with the older teenager when the drill was announced and the class was asked to go to a darkened instrument storage room.
The boy shoved her, asked who it was, and the girl said her name, documents show. The boy then started touching her breasts and genitals. She tried to pull away from him and away from her, but he was too strong for her. The girl felt that she had to be quiet because of the exercise.
The boy shoved his hands into his pants, then grabbed her and shoved his hands into her pants. He then shoved his hands into his pants again, according to documents. It stopped when the lights came back on, and the girl went to her desk and cried.
The girl’s parents were contacted and she was taken to hospital for a sexual assault examination.
