12 members of the National Guard withdrawn from the inauguration mission after verification

A dozen members of the National Guard have been removed from their posts to protect the presidential nomination due to various issues in their past, defense officials said on Tuesday.

Two of the soldiers made “inappropriate comments or texts,” prompting their withdrawal from Capitol Hill, General Daniel Hokanson, head of the National Guard bureau, said at a press conference. The issues with these two people were raised by fellow troops and by anonymous intelligence.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman declined to elaborate on whether the comments were political in nature, related to extremism, or directly related to a threat against President-elect Joe Biden and the vice -President-elect Kamala Harris.
