Authorities responded to a 911 call around 4 p.m., reporting that more than 40 people had fallen from a collapsed bridge at a restaurant in Soddy-Daisy, the statement said.
Authorities said a birthday party was taking place around the time of the collapse.
Of the 11 people taken to hospital, two had serious injuries and nine had non-critical injuries, the statement said.
“The damage is unknown at the moment,” he added. “Hamilton County building codes have been notified and will inspect the bridge for the cause of the collapse.”
Soddy-Daisy is located in the southeastern part of the state, approximately 16 miles from Chattanooga.
