1 climber missing and 2 injured after rockfall and avalanche in Rocky Mountain National Park

One of the male climbers was rescued by members of the Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue Team with assistance from the Colorado National Guard, the statement said.

The man was airlifted to Rocky Mountain Medical Center by medivac where he is being treated. A climber was slightly injured, the statement said.

Authorities continued to search for the third missing climber in the area where the avalanche occurred, the statement said.

Other climbers in the area witnessed the rockslide and avalanche, park authorities said in the statement.

So far this year, 16 people have died in avalanches in the United States, significantly fewer than the 37 people who died last year, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
