EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A teenager is accused of stealing a police car and totaling it.
While the 15-year-old has been arrested, police continue to search for two other suspects.
The teenager is actually accused of stealing two cars, one of which is the police car.
Police said it was a pretty chaotic scene. This involved one chase and two separate foot chases.
They said officers spotted a stolen car around 9 p.m. last night in the Park Avenue neighborhood.
The driver hit the police car and then fled.
Police attempted to stop the driver, which led to a short chase. However, the chase was halted.
Shortly after, the driver returned to the Park Avenue neighborhood.
Another policeman saw the car and parked behind a warehouse.
Police said the suspect got into the police car.
At that point, there was a foot chase. The suspect then got into the police car, stole it and crashed into a telephone pole.
Officers said the cruiser had been totaled.
Another foot chase ensued. The police used K9s to follow the suspect.
The 15-year-old was arrested, but the two other suspects also involved escaped.
One of the officers was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The officer has since been released.
As for the 15-year-old, the suspect is due to appear before a juvenile court on Wednesday.
The teenager faces a number of charges, including the theft of two cars, reckless endangerment and assaulting a police officer.
